Structural
Sensing Arrays
Readily
embedded in composite structures at the time of manufacture/assembly,
optical sensor arrays are designed for structural condition monitoring.
They provide
event-based (impact) or continuous (ongoing service loading and fatigue)
data for a range of strain and damage conditions. Strains can also be
detected from such environmental events as movements due to earthquakes
or changes in tension due to river scouring on bridge footings. The
sensing arrays as large area fabrics containing optical or optoelectronic
transport channels.
Characteristics:
- Inert
and able to withstand severe environments
- Very
low weight and low cross section
- Sensitive
from -1000 microstrain to +1000 microstrain
For:
Aircraft, ground vehicles, dams, bridges
Key
Benefits:
An embeddable fabric, easy to install, reliable, EMI-immune
